20-20 Cricket



The 2007 inaugural ICC World Twenty20 cricket championship took place in South Africa from 11 September to 24 September 2007. About twelve teams competed in the thirteen-day tournament, including the ten test cricket playing nations as well as the finalists of the 2007 WCL Division One tournament countries - Kenya and Scotland. Beating Pakistan in the final, India won the tournament.

The Indian team is always considered as one of the top favorites in winning the tournament. Reasons for this are that the team had done well in its previous tournaments and always been in the good form. The team's tours to England and South Africa had shown wonderful performances, which make cricket enthusiasts all over the world upbeat about their success.



Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an aggressive wicket keeper and right-handed batsman in the Indian Cricket National Team. He was ranked as the No. 1 batsman in the ODI ratings of the ICC World Cup in 2006. He is one of the numerous wicket keepers under the ranks of India A and Junior Cricket Teams who will represent the national team. This route was followed by Dinesh Karthik, Ajay Ratra, and Parthiv Patel. He made a debut in the 1998-1999 Cricket seasons under Bihar Cricket team. He was then selected to represent India A for the 2004 Tour in Kenya. During the match against the Pakistan, he made multiple centuries along with Gautam Gambhir. However, in 2008, during a match in Chennai, he stubbed a batsman from South Africa.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni often plays from the back foot with a stressed bottom handgrip. He moves his hand at a fast speed through the ball that often results to ball racing adjacent to the ground. From the initial posture on his feet, he does not show many movements on ball chasing. During his 5th ODI match in 2005, Dhoni was able to score 148 against the Pakistan. This is the highest score every garnered by an Indian wicketkeeper. He even broke his own record for the highest scorer in the second innings of ODI matches against Sri Lanka. His success had earned him a secured place in the Test Cricket Team.

Another Indian cricket player that made his name at the ICC World Cup tournament is Yuvraj Singh, a mainly left-handed batsman. He is good in batting against fast bowling than going after spin bowling. The Indian Oil Cup 2005 tournament was a turning point in his cricket career. He became as one of the great fielders of the Indian Cricket National team because he has a good aim at the stumps. In a report published by Cricinfo in 2005, he was the 4th in the list of prolific leaders who are affecting run outs in ODIs. Previously, he is often characterized of having attitude problems but eventually respect the captainship position of Rahul Dravid.

In the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, Suresh Raina was assign to the bench midway all throughout the ODI tour in South Africa. This is after his poor run in Malaysi Tri-Series in September 2005.This event had spread rapidly throughout the Test team that made him dropped out from the squad.

Apparently, in June 25, 2008 of Asia Cup, Suresh Raina scored his fresh one hundred against Hong Kong. His score of 66 balls was regarded as the second fastest century in the ODI history of India. In the next two matches, he scored 116 against Bangladesh and 84 against Pakistan. For three consecutive times, he won the award as man of the match.
