One Day Cricket



The 1983 Cricket World tournament was won by the Indian Cricket Team. It is also know as the Prudential Cup, which was the third edition of the tournament itself. It was held in England from June 9 to 25 of the same year. Apart from India, it was participated by 7 other cricketing countries. Right from the very beginning, the tournament was filled with many dramatic cricketing occurrences. The teams of Zimbabwe and India that were not playing well during the preliminary matches had made to the finals.



Kapil Dev was the captain of the Indian Cricket Team when they won the 1983 Cricket World tournament. He was regarded as the world cup hero, the best ever-fast bowler in India, and a great right-handed batsman with world-class appeal. His fantastic performances during the tournament had brought back the cricket world cup title to India. He displayed a great ability and accuracy to swing the ball away from the right-handers. This batting style had made him a world-class favorite to many cricket fans in the world.

Sachin Tendulkar is also known as the “Master Blaster”. He had broken the world record of Brian Lara from West Indies, for the highest number of runs in ODI (One-Day International) in the history of test cricket. This record of him had earned him the so-called King of ODI Cricket. In addition, he also holds the title of the most numbers of centuries in ODI Cricket.

Next to Donald Bradman in 2002, Sachin Tendulkar was regarded as the second greatest test batsman of all time by the Wisden magazine. He was also regarded by the same magazine as the second greatest ODI batsmen of all time next to Viv Richards. In September of 2007, Shane Warne, an Australian leg spinner, rated Sachin as the greatest player he had played with. With all these recognitions, Sachin was included in Bradmans Eleven, being the only player of his current generation.

Sachin Tendulkar has the highest run scores in both ODIs Cricket and Test Cricket Matches. In whatever forms of cricket game, Sachin also has the highest number of centuries. He was the first player to score 50 centuries in all combined international cricket tournaments. Today, he now has more than 80 international centuries and 10,000 runs in ODIs.

With all his international achievements and honors, Sachin Tendulkar was given the Padma Vibhushan award, which was the second highest civilian award in India. He was also given the Rajiv Gandhi Ratna award, which was the highest sporting honor in India.

Sourav Ganguly is the most successful Test Cricket captain in India as of October 2008 with a winning result of 21 tests of out 49. He was the captain of the Indian National Team during the 2003 World Cup Finals. He is a left-handed cricketer regarded as one of ODIs greatest batsmen of all time having his own credit of 11,000 runs.

Sourav Ganguly made his test cricket debut alongside with Rahul Dravid at the Lord’s, making a century score in the match. This score had made him the only third Indian cricketer to score on his test debut after John Hampshire and Harry Graham.
